Η ομάδα του Εργαστηρίου για τα Αστικά Κοινά παρουσιάζει την πρώτη ατομική έκθεση της Zeyno Pekünlü στην Αθήνα με τίτλο Pretty Furious Women. 

Η πολύπλευρη ερευνητική, καλλιτεχνική, ακτιβιστική πρακτική της Zeyno Pekünlü (γεν. 1980, Σμύρνη), σχολιάζει στην κατασκευή των έμφυλων ταυτοτήτων, την περιορισμένα «απελευθερωμένη» γυναικεία σεξουαλικότητα, τη σχέση ανάμεσα στο φύλο και την κοινωνική τάξη, καθώς και την παραγωγή και διανομή της γνώσης. 

Tο ισόγειο του Neo Cosmos καταλαμβάνει η εγκατάσταση Pretty Furious Women (παραγωγή Μπιενάλε της Τζακάρτα, 2015), ένας μαχητικός αναστοχασμός για τη βία κατά των γυναικών και τις ολοένα αυξανόμενες γυναικοκτονίες στην Τουρκία, και όχι μόνο. Εξαιτίας αυτής της κατάστασης οι Τουρκάλες έχουν ξεκινήσει ένα νέο αγώνα ενθαρρύνοντας η μία την άλλη να διεκδικήσει τα νόμιμα δικαιώματά της, αλλά και να υπερασπιστεί τον εαυτό τους μέσω της αυτοάμυνας. Η Zeyno αναβιώνει την προσωπική της εμπειρία εκμάθησης της Beksi Silat, μία από τις πιο δημοφιλείς παραδοσιακές πολεμικές τέχνες των Betawinese (Ινδονησία). Με οπτικές αναφορές σε ταινίες πολεμικών τεχνών, το Pretty Furious Women αποτελείται από ένα φιλμ που θυμίζει προωθητικό τρέιλερ μιας «δυνητικής» ταινίας και μία σειρά από ανάλογες αφίσες, σε στυλ b movie. Την εγκατάσταση πλαισιώνουν τα βίντεο How to Properly Touch a Girl so You Don’t Creep Her Out? (2015) και Don’t Let Anyone Hear! (2012). Χρησιμοποιώντας τεχνικές μοντάζ/κολάζ, με έντονο ρυθμό εναλλαγής σκηνών άλλοτε παρμένων από δημοφιλή τουρκικά μελοδράματα που γυρίστηκαν μεταξύ 1950-1980, κι άλλοτε από βίντεο τύπου «Πως να...?» (How to) του YouTube που ανεβάζουν οι αυτοαποκαλούμενοι life coaches, οι “ειδικοί” και οι PUA προσφέροντας πρακτικές συμβουλές σχετικά με το πως να κανονίσεις και να συμπεριφερθείς σε ραντεβού, τα δύο βίντεο λειτουργούν ως παραπληρωματικά και παιγνιώδη σχόλια σε στερεοτυπικές, αντρικές συμπεριφορές προσέγγισης γυναικών (φλερτ, καμάκι, παρενόχληση) μέσα στα χρόνια.

Στο υπόγειο προβάλλεται το διάρκειας εννέα ωρών βίντεο Work /İş (2019) . Στο Work /İş η καλλιτέχνις αναπαριστά μεθοδικά και μέχρι εξαντλήσεως, κάθε εργάσιμη στιγμή της μέρας της εκθέτοντας την κανονικότητα της καθημερινής διαδικασίας παραγωγής ως γυναίκα, επαγγελματίας καλλιτέχνιδα και μαμά: μπροστά στον υπολογιστή της, email το ένα μετά το άλλο, μηνύματα στο Whatsapp ως εργαλεία κοινωνικοποίησης αλλά και για γρήγορη εκτέλεση της αμειβόμενης εργασίας, μικρά διαλείμματα για σερφάρισμα σε πλατφόρμες μέσων κοινωνικής δικτύωσης, μαζί με την παράλληλη οργάνωση των οικιακών εργασιών. Όλα γίνονται κεκλεισμένων των θυρών, όλα γίνονται μέσα στο σπίτι-στούντιο-γραφείο. 

Τη μέρα των εγκαινίων ( Πέμπτη 1 Ιουνίου)  η Zeyno θα παρουσιάσει το Pretty Furious Women μέσα από μια performance lecture-ξενάγηση. Η συγκεκριμένη δράση σηματοδοτεί και μία συμβολική, πρώτη σύμπραξη μεταξύ των γειτονικών  χώρων του TΑVROS και του Neo Cosmos με αφορμή τη συμμετοχή της καλλιτέχνιδας και στο πρόγραμμα Revolution is not a one time event που παρουσιάζεται το τελευταίο διάστημα στον TAVROS. 

Κατά τη διάρκεια της έκθεσης θα πραγματοποιηθούν ανοιχτά εργαστήρια αυτοάμυνας για θηλυκότητες. Οι ημερομηνίες και τρόποι δήλωσης συμμετοχής θα ανακοινωθούν σύντομα.

Η Zeyno Pekünlü είναι εικαστικός γεννημένη στη Σμύρνη το 1980.

Απέκτησε το μεταπτυχιακό της δίπλωμα από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Βαρκελώνης, και το διδακτορικό της από το Πανεπιστήμιο Mimar Sinan. Αυτή τη στιγμή διευθύνει το Δημόσιο Πρόγραμμα της Istanbul Biennial, του Istanbul Biennial Production and Research Program (ÇAP) και του Istanbul Cell of Fellowship for Situated Practice που διοργανώνεται από το BAK Utrecht. Είναι μέλος της συντακτικής επιτροπής του e-journal Red Thread και μέλος του IRI (Institute of Radical Imagination). Μαζί με τον καλλιτέχνη Köekn Ergun είναι συνιδρυτρια  της πρωτοβουλίας KIRIK.

The Laboratory for Urban Commons presents Zeyno Pekünlü's first solo exhibition in Athens entitled Pretty Furious Women. 

Zeyno Pekünlü's (b. 1980, Izmir) multifaceted artistic, activist and research practice comments on the construction of gender identities, the limited "liberated" female sexuality, the relationship between gender and social class, as well as the production and distribution of knowledge. 

Occupying the ground floor of Neo Cosmos is the installation Pretty Furious Women (produced by the Jakarta Biennale, 2015), a militant reflection on the violence against women and the ever-increasing femicide in Turkey and beyond. Because of this situation, Turkish women have started a new struggle encouraging each other to claim their legal rights and to defend themselves through self-defense. Zeyno relives her personal experience of learning Beksi Silat, one of the most popular traditional martial arts of the Betawinese (Indonesia). With visual references to martial arts films, Pretty Furious Women consists of a film resembling a promotional trailer for a "potential" movie and a series of similar posters, b-movie style. 

The installation is accompanied by the videos How to Properly Touch a Girl so You Don't Creep Her Out? (2015) and Don't Let Anyone Hear! (2012). Using editing/collage techniques, with an intense rhythm of scene changes, sometimes taken from popular Turkish melodramas filmed between 1950-1980, sometimes from "How to...? " videos on YouTube uploaded by self-proclaimed life coaches, "experts" and PUAs offering practical advice on how to arrange and behave on dates, the videos function as sarcastic commentaries on stereotypical, masculine attitudes of approaching women (flirt, pick-up, harassment) through the years.

The nine-hour video Work/İş (2019) is shown in the basement. In Work /İş, the artist methodically and to the point of exhaustion, represents every working moment of her day, exposing the normalization of the daily production process as a woman, professional artist and mother: stuck in front of her computer, email one after the other, Whatsapp messages as tools for socializing but also for quick paid work, short breaks for surfing social media platforms, along with the omnipresent organization of household tasks. Everything is done behind closed doors, all is happening inside the home-studio-office premises. 

On the opening (Thursday 1 June) Zeyno will present Pretty Furious Women through a performance lecture-guided tour. This action marks a symbolic, first partnership between the neighboring spaces of TAVROS and Neo Cosmos on the occasion of the artist's participation in the revolution is not a one time event, programme currently on view at TAVROS.

During the exhibition there will be open, self-defense workshops for femininities. Dates and registration process will be announced soon.

Bio

Zeyno Pekünlü (b. 1980, Izmir) She obtained her M.A. from University of Barcelona and her Ph.D. from Mimar Sinan University. She is currently running the Istanbul Cell of Fellowship for Situated Practice organized by BAK Utrecht. She is part of the editorial board of e-journal Red Thread and member of IRI (Institute of Radical Imagination). Together with artist Köekn Ergun she is co-founder of the initiative KIRIK.
