Το Listening to the Diagnostic Ear, καταπιάνεται με ερωτήσεις όπως: τί μπορεί να σημαίνει ένας βήχας;/ τί μπορεί να σημαίνει ένας βήχας για το ποιόν μας; Τους τελευταίους μήνες έχουν εμφανιστεί αρκετά ιατρικά/επιχειρηματικά εγχειρήματα, τα οποία συλλέγουν και αναλύουν το βήχα προκειμένου να διαγνώσουν τον COVID-19. Τα συγκεκριμένα πρότζεκτ εμφανίστηκαν ξαφνικά και ταυτόχρονα, σαν συμπτώματα μιας υποκείμενης πάθησης. Όταν ένα από αυτά τελικά υλοποιηθεί, ως ένας ΑΙ Γιατρός, θα μας αντιμετωπίζει σαν διαγνωστικό αυτί: ακούγοντας τους θορύβους που κάνουμε θα αντιλαμβάνεται αυτό που δεν μπορεί να ακουστεί, αυτό που ούτε καν εμείς γνωρίζουμε για τον εαυτό μας. Στο Listening to the Diagnostic Ear, γινόμαστε εμείς αυτοί που κάνουν τη διάγνωση ακούγοντας το σύνολο των ηχητικών δεδομένων βήχα με τα οποία εκπαιδεύεται η μηχανή. Τι μαθαίνει το αυτί μας από αυτούς τους βήχες; Τι μπορεί να σημαίνει ένας βήχας;

Listening to the Diagnostic Ear, engages with some questions – what can a cough tell us? What can a cough tell about us? More than a few medical/entrepreneurial projects, which are collecting and analysing coughs in order to diagnose COVID-19, have appeared over the past few months. These projects appeared suddenly, all at once, like symptoms of an underlying condition. When a project such as this is finally realised as an AI Doctor, it will confront us as a diagnostic ear, listening to the noises we make to recognise what can’t be heard, what we don’t even know about ourselves. In Listening to the Diagnostic Ear, we listen back, by listening to one dataset of coughs that the machine is learning from. What is this ear learning from these coughs? What can a cough tell us?
